TestAS Preparation

The Subject Modules

As of: 30 October 2026

After the Core Module you take exactly one Subject Module. You choose it when you register. Which module you need depends on the degree programme and the university.

The format

  • 90 minutes
  • 10 to 15 testlets with 4 to 8 questions each
  • A testlet describes a situation with text, a graphic, a table or a formula. The questions test understanding, application and transfer to new material.
  • Each question has several answers, exactly one is correct.

There are no other modules. The onSET language test, the TestDaF and Deutsch-Uni Online are separate offers from g.a.s.t. and not part of the TestAS.

Which module do you need?

  1. Check with your university first. Many universities state which module counts. In our university table this is shown per row, as far as the source names it.
  2. Medicine is a special case. For many medicine applications, the module that counts is not Medicine but Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences (MINT). You can see this in the medicine overview.
  3. If the university does not specify, take the module that fits your field of study best.

Subject knowledge

g.a.s.t. writes that technical terms are not assumed. Depending on the module, you do need basics, for example in working with formulas and diagrams. The testlets explain what you need to solve them. You then have to understand and apply it quickly.
