With a foreign school certificate? The universities’ admission rules are explained in Medicine with a foreign Abitur (in German); when a Studienkolleg is needed is explained in Studienkolleg and assessment test (in German). For Austria, MedAT with a foreign school certificate (in German) shows which qualifications are enough there.

What stands out

6 things you should know.

What the rules for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy have in common and where they differ.

  • 8 × Required

    The roles differ.

The TestAS is required at these locations: Frankfurt, RWTH, MHH, Duisburg-Essen, Magdeburg, Greifswald, Göttingen and Cologne. Points or weighting apply at Freiburg, Würzburg and Giessen. It is a bonus or optional at Hamburg, Münster, Mainz, Tübingen, Halle and Leipzig.

  • MINT 10 of 17

    Often the MINT module counts.

MINT is required or accepted at 10 of 17 locations with a TestAS rule, not only the Medicine module. Münster gives the bonus only for MINT. Only Würzburg counts exclusively the Medicine module.

  • 1 × paper only

    Paper or digital?

Magdeburg counts only the paper test. The digital test is “not considered until further notice” there. Würzburg counts only the digital test. In Frankfurt, the 2019 statutes name only paper standard values.

  • 4 × German

    Test language German.

Frankfurt, RWTH, MHH and Magdeburg require German. In Würzburg, the statutes do not regulate the language.

  • 49 : 51

    Weighting 49 to 51.

At Würzburg, Frankfurt, MHH and Magdeburg, the TestAS counts 49 percent and the grade 51 percent towards the ranking score. In Frankfurt, the MINT Subject Module and the Core test share the 49 percent.

  • 5 × 15 July

    Deadlines: often 15 July.

For the winter semester, 5 sources name 15 July. Göttingen and the MHH have their own deadlines. The deadline is on each card if the source states it.

Common questions

Quick answers

Do I need the Medicine module or MINT for medicine?

Often MINT. The MINT module is required or accepted, for example, in Frankfurt, at RWTH, the MHH, in Magdeburg, Freiburg and Giessen. Münster gives the bonus only for MINT. Würzburg counts only the digital Medicine module.

How much does the TestAS count in Würzburg and at the MHH?

With 49 percent. The ranking score is made up of 0.51 from the grade of the university entrance qualification and 0.49 from the TestAS. At the MHH this applies to the preselection, followed by an admission interview.

Does the digital TestAS count for medicine?

That differs. Magdeburg counts only the paper test. Würzburg counts only the digital test with the Medicine module. In Frankfurt, the 2019 statutes name only paper standard values. Ask there before you register how the digital test counts.
